Search Queries
When you type a name or location into a search box, the query goes to the outside company that provides the search function. That company processes the entry and returns the results. Alpena County Criminal History does not record or retain those search words on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Correspondence may be kept for the time needed to respond and administer the exchange. A message is not shared outside the organization unless applicable law requires its disclosure.
Information Collected Automatically
A page request may transmit ordinary device and usage details without a separate submission:
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The name and version of the browser in use
- Operating-system and device categories
- Pages opened and the length of each visit
- A referring website, when one is reported
- The date and time associated with a page request
Cookies and Analytics
A cookie is a small file placed on a device. Cookies can help measure which pages draw visits and where sessions end. Analytics providers combine traffic data into general reports. Browser settings can reject cookies, but doing so may affect how some features operate.
Purposes for Using Information
- Operating the service and maintaining page performance
- Routing a submitted query to the applicable search provider
- Measuring which content receives use and may need revision
- Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect inferred interests
No Stored Criminal-Record Database
Alpena County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content directs readers to records held by Alpena County courts, the Sheriff, Michigan State Police, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. The service is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or personal dossiers for other parties.
Outside Search Providers
Independent companies supply the search functions displayed here. Information entered into a search tool is handled under that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query because Alpena County Criminal History cannot govern the provider's systems.
Visits to Linked Websites
Links may lead to Alpena County offices, Michigan agencies, court services, legal-aid resources, or outside search companies. Once you follow such a link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Consider those terms before providing personal information to that organization.
Some advertising companies may use activity from more than one website to select targeted advertisements. Any such cross-site tracking occurs through their technology and systems.
Parties That May Receive Information
Personal information is not sold. Limited information may be provided to:
- A search provider processing a query you submit
- Analytics companies measuring traffic and service performance
- Advertising networks placing advertisements on the pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
Safeguarding Collected Information
Reasonable, commonly used security measures are applied to information collected through the service. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure. These measures are intended to reduce risk, but they cannot ensure that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Visitors Younger Than 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. Notice that a minor submitted such information will be reviewed so the material can be removed where appropriate.
Requests Concerning Your Data
Rights concerning personal data depend on the law that applies to a particular request. Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq. applies to records of covered public bodies. It does not create a records-access right against this private service. MCL 28.242a governs dissemination of Michigan criminal-history information by the covered state system. A request to Alpena County Criminal History may concern:
- Whether personal information about you is retained
- Correction of information shown to be inaccurate
- Deletion of information where applicable law requires it
- Objection to a form of processing where applicable law provides that choice
Listing these request categories does not promise that information exists or that a request must be granted. The response depends on the information held and the law that governs it.
Revisions to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or requirements change. A revised version will appear here and will carry an updated effective date. The version posted on this page states the policy then in effect.
